3 out of 5 stars ok Value for the money but you can do better   January 8, 2009

I owns both this model and Yamaha RX-V663. The Yamaha cost about $100 more than this model. I prefers the Yamaha than this one. The Yamaha has a better sound and easier to operate. The biggest difference and major problems for Onkyo is the heat it generates. I know that all receivers generate heat which is normal. But the Onkyo generates disproportionally more heat, EVEN during standby, than any other brands. It may cause potential problems if you place it in a closed cabinet. I have to leave the door slightly open to keep the temperature down but wife keep close it. On the contrary, the Yamaha doesn't generate heat at all during standby and only modestly during normal operation.

By the way, the Yamaha ranked by Comsumer report as the best for Blueray player. Again you pay for what you get. for a slightly more dollar, you get a signifcantly better product.

4 out of 5 stars Great receiver, poor remote   January 8, 2009
J. Decker (Austin, TX)
I 'upgraded' from an Onkyo TX-SR702 (purchased in 2005) to the TX-SR606 for the HDMI and TrueHD support. The receiver works as advertised, sounds incredible and is what I expected given my great experience with the previous Onkyo. Overall extremely pleased with the performance and sound of the receiver. The on-screen menus are good and set-up/configuration is very easy.

Only complaint is the remote, which compared the the one on the 702 is a huge disappointment. It isn't backlit, isn't a universal remote and has a very cheap feel to it. To be fair - it does the basic job of a remote and if it trimmed $50 off the price then I can't really complain.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic Receiver! With some Pluses and Minuses   January 7, 2009

In short, this is a great product. What amazed me is the remote that comes with has codes to control TIVO and the XBOX 360!

If the unit had 1 or 2 more AUX standard type A/V jacks it would be perfect.

5 out of 5 stars Timely delivery, quality product   January 6, 2009

My second Onkyo receiver...the first one lasted 20 years. The quality of the product appears to continue. Amazon shipped it quickly and it arrived faster than expected. Set up takes some time but the use of HDMI (4+1) takes some of the work and the tangle out of it. Using Bose Accostimass (also 20 years old) for front and sub....sounds very good but am considering center channel and other 4 speaker options.

5 out of 5 stars Onkyo TX-SR606   January 6, 2009

The system is easy to install, has a great sound and is easy to use. The remote is particularly less complicated than most. The cost is reasonable in comparison to other system with similar feathers.
