Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
iKaraoke sends the music from your iPod to your stereo minus the lead vocals, so you can step up to the mic and sing the lead in your favorite tunes. iKaraoke makes it easy to pause the music, scan forward or backward, or temporarily add the vocals back in to help you find your place. It even includes reverb effects to enhance your performance. iKaraoke hooks up to your stereo via line-in cable, or wirelessly through your FM receiver.

Amazon.com Product Description
Bring the fun of karaoke into your living room with the iKaraoke from Griffin Technology. Designed to interface between most iPods with dock connectors and your home stereo, the iKaraoke works by silencing the lead vocal track of your favorite songs, letting you step up to the mic in your own voice. It's particularly great for parties, as you aren't restricted to traditional karaoke favorites but can instead sing along to any song you want. If your iPod has it, you can sing to it. Controlling the selection is easy thanks to the integrated buttons on the microphone, including buttons for pausing, scanning forward or backward, and even temporarily adding the vocals back in to help you find your place. And thanks to the built-in reverb effects, you can make your plain- jane voice sound fresh and intriguing--just like the pros.

The iKaraoke--which hooks up to your iPod with a dock-connecting cable and to your stereo vie either a line-in cable or wirelessly through your FM receiver--works with the following iPods: iPod 4G, iPod 5G with video, iPod nano 1G and 2G, and the iPod mini.

What's in the Box
iKaraoke microphone, cable with line-out jack, user's manual.

1 out of 5 stars I want my money back   November 26, 2008

I bought this item for the full price. Now I see why it is being offered for 35 dollars LESS. Even now $6 is too much. The problem I am having is that the feedback makes this product unusable. I followed the directions and went to the website for help. It says keep mic away from speakers and close to mouth. My cord is stretched completely away from my speakers...feedback. UNUSABLE.

I bought this item, and after reading all the manual and try to use it, I returned to the store and asked for a refund.

I like the thought of this item. It pretty much does what it says. The radio frequency is a little challenging to get good quality sound. When it "minimizes" the lead vocals, it minimizes everything making it harder to hear. I like it and will use it again, but I think there is room for improvement.

1 out of 5 stars About as bad as I'd expected   December 19, 2007

After reading about all the things the iKaraoke was supposed to do, I was immediately skeptical. Still, tho, for less than I'd spend on a good meal for two somewhere, I decided to take a chance.

The mic has two modes, one with the original vocals intact, and one (in theory) with the vocals removed. For the latter, I've tried many different songs with a wide variety of ranges, tempos, styles, etc, and the best I've gotten from the iKaraoke is to severely muffle and distort the vocals...but never completely getting rid of them. Another problem, is that anything in the same frequency range as the vocals (including instruments and YOUR voice as well) are also severely muffled. I had some fun with it, and noticed that the more 'off key' I sang, the more I was able to hear myself.

The bottom line is this: The iKaraoke does NOT do what it claims to do. If it's worth $40 to spend the evening tinkering and TRYING to get it to work, instead of blowing it at a bar, the movies, etc, then have at it. Understand that your money WILL be spent for nothing, however, and in the end, you'll find that it was more fun singing without it.
