Amazon.com Product Description--Posted July 28, 2008
Listen to iPod, CD, and AM/FM radio with the IB318 portable music system from iLive. The integrated docking station plays and charges iPods, and a line input accepts virtually any audio device. Dynamic stereo speakers with dual subwoofers deliver every nuance of your music--from deep bass to crystal-clear highs.

Booming iPod sound in a boombox package.

Use the slot-load CD player for playing your CDs, CD-Rs, and CD-RWs.

Portability makes it as perfect for the beach as it is for the bedroom.

Boombox Design
The IB318 can be powered using the detachable AC cord, of course, but you also can enjoy real portability by throwing in 8 C batteries. Take your tunes to the beach, to the BBQ, anywhere you need 'em.

Docking Station for iPod
Featuring a certified iPod connector for docking various iPod models, the IB318 charges your iPod while it's docked, so you'll be ready to go when you detach it. You also can control connected iPod players using the device or remote.

Slot-load CD Player
Some of us still have big CD collections, too. Use the slot-load CD player to play your CDs, CD-Rs, and CD-RWs.

AM/FM Stereo Radio
Enjoy live radio with the digital AM/FM stereo radio. Find your favorite stations and save them as presets, so you can cycle through them quickly.

Digital Clock
Keep track of the time with the built-in digital clock, which also includes a sleep timer function for drifting off to your favorite tunes.

Sound Appeal
Enjoy powerful bass with the dual, built-in subwoofers and stereo speakers. Dial it in further with the 3-position bass level and EQ presets (rock, pop, jazz, and classic). The IB318 also boasts a 3.5-mm input jack for use with MP3 players or other external audio devices, and a headphone jack for more intimate listening.

Full-Function Remote Control
Enjoy complete control of your unit's functions (and those of docked iPods) from across the room with included remote.

5 out of 5 stars This product has everything!   December 19, 2008

When it comes to value for money, this boom box has it. The design of the boombox is simple, space efficient and user friendly. Your iPod charges while in use and fits very securely (I have an iPod nano 3G and flipped the unit upside down with the iPod attached and it stayed in place.)

The remote is awesome. You can control pretty much every aspect of the unit's functions via the remote (including the ipod playlists, songs and albums). IPod volume is independent of remote function and is defunct when attached to the unit. In other words, the overall volume does not change if you turn up or even mute the iPod volume. Considering all the functions, the remote is very small, thin and light.

The display is pretty big and has large digits so it can be seen from a distance.

You can attach headphones via a headpghone jack, as well as mp3 players other than your iPod via the auxillary jack. There is a sleep timer as well as a wake up timer, so you can wake up to your CD, radio or ipod.

Minor problems are that there is no way to save settings once the unit is unplugged unless you have eight 'C' batteries which make the unit (obviously) weigh a ton. However, if the unit is plugged back in before about 20 minutes, the settings are preserved (I think that's a good compromise). I did not test it for longer than that time. Also, this is clearly an indoor use radio. Even with the 3 level bass settings, the quality is reduced out in the open air and volume only goes so high. When used indoors, the audio quality is satisfactory.

Overall, for the price, with all the functions and aesthetics into consideration, this is as good as it gets. Perfect for bedrooms and dorm rooms. If you want better audio quality, break out your wallet.

5 out of 5 stars Great!   September 30, 2008

I am a music teacher and I needed a boombox that would be loud enough to substitute for my regular radio when needed. I have had this unit several weeks and I use it in PLACE of my old radio! The ipod feature works nicely and the cd player has no problems. The radio was a little fuzzy, but it is probably because of my location, not the radio. I was very skeptical of buying this product, but I have really enjoyed it. If you are looking for a boombox that is easy to use and has good sound, this one should definately be considered.

this is a unique product combination.it fits all kinds of i-pods.that's a good thing.a cd player to boot. sound is great.only thing i don't like is the clock and preset stations have to be redone if you don't keep it plugged in without batteries in it. otherwise great product.

3 out of 5 stars Lots of features but not loud enough for outdoors   July 30, 2008

I just got this and am returning it, but I think lots of people will be satisfied with this if they want it for indoor use only and don't require a lot of bass. It appears to be more mid-range and not as much bass or enough high treble, if that's even the correct term. It actually sounds fine though - I think I'm just picky and prefer that type of sound (I imagine the sound looking like an hourglass, the way I like it; top heavy and bottom heavy!).

It's great that it has a docking station which doesn't force the ipod to stick up too high/vulnerably, although my ipod didn't sit in there terribly snugly (but well enough I'm sure), and that it has am/fm tuner and c.d. player, I like the way the c.d. player is the slot-loading kind (again, probably not getting the terminology right, sorry). I wasn't impressed with the reception of the FM tuner though...although it wasn't terrible it was far from good, and I never did try AM.

It takes a while to turn the volume up or down and there's no mute button so you can't turn it down in a hurry if you need to. You have to hit the button repeatedly and quickly and hope that's fast enough (you can also hold it down but that takes even longer). The pre-set EQ options aren't very impressive. Why can't they just give us old-fashioned dials for volume or tuners instead of digital buttons, and why can't they just give us treble and bass dials for us to manipulate ourselves? So frustrating!

The unit looks really cool and feels good to carry and the handle is nice. The only problem I have in terms of looks is that the front is so nice and shiny and glossy that it will get scratched REALLY easily (not the biggest deal in the world) and in fact mine came with a light to medium-sized scratch straight from the factory. If it weren't for the average/mediocre sound, I'd keep it regardless of the scratch.

Unfortunately the only other boomboxes out there that are louder with more base are only two models: one that is ipod/MP3 player only (a dock with lots of power coming out of those speakers but has no tuner or c.d. player) and one that has it all including ipod hook-up but no dock/cradle to keep it in as part of the entire unit (i.e. it's off to the side, hooked up by a cord plugged into the boombox). It's mind-boggling to me that at this time there STILL isn't a loud, powerful boombox that has at least a tuner (with good reception, at that) AND that has a docking station that securely holds your ipod in place without it sticking up awkwardly!

Bottom line, for not being a fancy brand name or a unit that is known for being super loud, it's not bad. I may be pickier than some and require a lot more bass and treble than perhaps the average listener. I think this would be really, really nice for someone who just wants to hear decent sounding music (it's not bad - just not great) and have the options it offers. I also like that I can spontaneously hook it up to my laptop if I wanted, to get more sound than the laptop speakers provide (without having to commit to the set-up of computer speakers). It's a nice size (not too big or small), looks nice and sounds pretty good inside the house - just not a lot of bass (for me). It would be great for an office or kitchen and probably great outdoors if it's just you on a balcony reading a book as opposed to being the source of music at at a back yard BBQ full of chatty people...the music just wouldn't be loud enough.

Anyway I hope this info helps! I know finding reviews on this at this point in time is almost impossible since this is so new.

p.s. finding info on how many watts is IMPOSSIBLE to do online. I had to call the company and was transferred to a few people before they finally found someone who could tell me (after mine had already been shipped - but at least I asked!) that it's 16 watts total (either 4, 4, and 8 or 6, 6 and 4 - can't remember which).
