Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
One of the exceptionally fine aspects of HDTV is that most programs are broadcast with a 5.1 channel surround soundtrack. Panasonic SC-PT660 is an easy way to enjoy it. With the Wireless Kit for Rear Speakers (SH-FX67 sold separately), no cables mean no clutter. You can also expand your music listening into three additional rooms with the wireless multi-room speaker kit (SH-FX85 sold separately). Play your favorite music from your home theater's built-in hard drive in your living room and listen to it in your bedroom, in the den, or even in the garage. The front pair and center speakers are simply wired to the receiver that also has a DVD changer and an AM/FM radio. With 1000 watts of RMS power, home-theater is fully realized. Sit back and enjoy.

The built-in Universal Dock for iPod gives you a great new way to enjoy music and (composite) video. Just slip your iPod into the cradle and enjoy. The dock charges your iPod, allows you to use the home theater remote to control the iPod, has on-screen audio menus, and also plays back iPod video. Got a Panasonic Viera TV? VIERA Link displays a menu on the TV screen, making it easier to operate your connected home theater system. Whatever HDTV you own, it's time to upgrade your sound and the Panasonic SC-PT660 is the best way to start it up. Rear Wireless Ready with the purchase of a SH-FX67 Wireless Speaker Kit Surround Enhancer Magnetically Shielded Speakers Inputs - 1 optical digital audio, 1 auxiliary input / Outputs - 1 component video, 1 video, HDMI and 1 headphone jack

2 out of 5 stars Not the most capable or well designed   December 26, 2008

I bought one of these systems to compliment my Panasonic Viera HDTV, as the "Viera Link" feature seemed pretty sweet.

I'm not going to lie, the audio quality and picture quality of this system are indeed very good, but that's about the only positives I can come by.

I am yet to be able to hook up the rear speakers to this system as the cords are not long enough. At their current length, they do not even go halfway through the living room. Since I've had the system, the center speaker has never even worked. I'm not sure if this is because the rear speakers have never been connected or what, but no sound ever comes from the center speaker. Sure, I can buy a wireless add on to have the speakers work, but I'm not paying the $120 Panasonic wants just so I won't have to run a wire to the other side of my room.

The Viera Link function isn't as intuitive as it could be. It's great being able to control the volume of the system with the TV remote, but you can't control the DVD player with the TV remote, so I still have to use the two remotes.

Another major problem is with the 5 CD changer. Instead of having a turntable type setup, there are five individual trays that are stacked on top of one another, with disc 1 starting at the top and disc 5 ending at the bottom. This is what I find a bit weird with the system; whenever you open one of the trays numbered 1-4, all trays below it will open as well. So if you open tray 1, all five trays open, tray 2, trays 2-5 open, so on. This makes it extremely hard if you are trying to put in or take out multiple discs, because you have to keep repeating the same steps over and over again.

Probably the biggest problem with this system is the lack of media it supports. Don't expect to play DIVX discs with this system as they're not supported, which is pretty pathetic considering the price. My $50 Philips DVD player even plays DIVX, so why does my $280 Panasonic system not?! There are also no region codes available for this player (which allow you to play out of region DVDs) which again, my $50 Philips system has. Leave it to the Japanese to make something overly difficult.

All in all, I cannot recommend this theater system due to its lack of features and overall buggy operation. Do not spend the money Panasonic wants for this set up when other manufacturers make more viable options for less.

4 out of 5 stars Panasonic PT660 - Great Value   December 1, 2008

I purchased the Home Theater System based on use/performance/price for our open floor plan kitchen/family room (approx. 22 x 18). This system is more than adequate and impressive. Setup was simple and straight forward. I was disappointed that Panasonic 'saved' 3 cents by not finishing one side of the sub woofer cabinet - there is a particle board side that is visible if you face the sub woofer speaker forward. (A call to the store highlighted that forward positioning of speaker is not needed for sub woofers since it is a very low frequency speaker). And, due to no fault of system, I can achieve improved sound by purchasing the wireless remote system ... checking prices as we speak.

Would I buy again or recommend this system - Yes ... and I have purchased a second system for a gift.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome Sound and Picture   December 1, 2008

This is an awesome set. The sound is great and the picture is outstanding. I have an lcd tv and this added so much clarity to my dvds and the surround sound has so many great settings for the different kinds of movies I watch. I don't have too many Panasonic products but this system made me to decide to look into their other products.

I wanted something relatively small and easy to use (like a Bose), but refused pay major Bose $$ for a product with a poor reliability record.
The Panasonic is easy to set up and sounds great. Also purchased the Panasonic SH-FX85 Wireless Multi-Room and it also meets my expectations.

2 out of 5 stars Needs more volume!   September 3, 2008

The receiver plays all DVds with no problem, and it has a decent sound, but that's where it ends. The sub is very flimsy with distorted bass. As for the wattage it does good to put out fifteen watts total. My TV gets much louder. Unless you live in an apartment with old folks all around you I would not recommend it.
