Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com Product Description
Use this tiny device to turn any radio into a conduit for your favorite music. Simply plug the iTrip into the docking port of a compatible iPod device and use the one-touch tuning to get connected. New SmartSound technology auto-adjusts signal strength for each frequency, ensuring the best possible quality. A brighter backlit display makes for easy operation, even at night.

Product Description
iTrip broadcasts the music from your iPod to an open FM frequency on your car's FM stereo so you can play your tunes through your car stereo's speakers. New brighter high-contrast display is easier to read in any light while SmartSound technology maximizes the FM radio signal sent by iTrip to your car's FM radio.

3 out of 5 stars Griffin iTrip Dock Connector   December 18, 2008
James K Biram (California, USA)
I like it, however; searching for the right station/transmitter is hard to figure out. I recommend using the channels that have the most frequency (fuzzy noises), usually below the 100 channels. Other than that, its a pretty great buy!

5 out of 5 stars Works just as good   December 11, 2008
fishbone (Nebraska)
I bought this newer version to replace the previous iTrip 2006 model, due to the fact I needed the extra space to acomodate an iPod case.
I am using it in conjunction with my 2nd Gen iPod Touch and for me this works just as good as the older model.

1 out of 5 stars Lousy, lousy, lousy   December 11, 2008
David P. (Washington, DC)
I bought this Itrip for home with the newest 6G Ipod hoping to play my music collection wirelessly on my sound system. For the last two hours I have been trying every possible frequency to no avail. It simply doesn't work.

Basically, the signal from the Itrip is so weak that unless the Itrip touches my radio antenna you cannot hear anything. I tried different antennas, no antennas, same result. Radio stations play perfectly, but Itrip has to physically touch the antenna for the signal to be transmitted.

For the record I live in Washington DC, where radio sygnals are very strong.

4 out of 5 stars Compact & Easy   November 25, 2008

FM Modulators as a rule do not provide as clear reception as a direct line. However, if your current vehicle doesn't provide that option, you don't want a bunch of wires in your way, or you find yourself switching vehicles quite a bit, this is the perfect solution for you!

The iTrip is tiny, doesn't need wires (but they are included just in case you want to simultaneously charge your iPod while you're using it), and provides almost perfect sound. The only caveat to this is that you need to find the best station to broadcast through, but that isn't difficult to do. The iTrip also remembers the last station used, so if you find a good one, make it a preset and you'll be all set.

The only warning I will give is that when you first purchase your iTrip, it may drain the battery from your iPod more rapidly than should be expected, so make sure to bring the extra charging cables with you just in case. This is a symptom that wears off, so you won't have to worry about it too long.

2 out of 5 stars Too underpowered for use   October 7, 2008
N. Ramon (Houston, TX)
The previous model of regular iTrip (the 2006 dock connector model) was really good, and could punch through a crowded dial like Houston's. Well, I needed a new one (lost the old one...) and picked up the 2008 model as available.

It's weak.

Even holding it a couple of inches from an antenna, this model is just staticky at best and doesn't come through at all at the worst.
Evidently, the FCC started cracking down on personal FM transmitters that are overpowered right out of the box, and the reason that the previous model was so effective was that, well... it was illegal. Oops.
But DARN, it was good.

Honestly, if you can find one, get the previous dock connector model.
