5 out of 5 stars good product   January 6, 2009
Barbara Schwan (middletown, nj)
I bought these for my son for Christmas. I researched a lot of products that appear to have the same features, however they are really just knockoffs of this technology. Bowflex invented this system and they really are the best, even if they are more expensive.

5 out of 5 stars The best I have owned.   January 3, 2009
Osage (U.S.A.)
This set is absolutely perfect for my need and is the best set I have ever owned. The range, from 5 to 52.5 pounds of perfect and I especially like the 2.5 pound increment change which goes up for the first 25 pounds. The switch system is extremely rapid, a feature which delights me as I absolutely hate jumping through hoops between sets and various drills.

The range of exercises you can accomplish with these things, once you learn precisely what you are doing is very impressive. It meets my home use perfectly and I can then go to the local gym and supplement what I do in my own home. At the gym, I tend to want to accomplish more aerobic than static as I do not have the equipment in my home or apartment to do this. This is particularly important for me in winter when I cannot run or ride my bicycle outside.

I have absolutely no desire to "bulk up" and the small increment increasing system fits my plan perfectly. My space for such equipment is limited and these units are compact and easily stored. They are very attractive so I do not mind leaving them out in plane sight when not in use. This set is portable too, which is a huge advantage for me as I spend part of my time in my home in the country, part of it at my apartment in the city and extended stays with friends all over the country. As I do much of my travel my car, this is no problem.

Now these are a heavier set than I need (being a girl, my objectives are somewhat different than many men) but I did go ahead and purchase the larger set as I do have brothers that stay with me from time to time and the are weight fanatics. This suits their needs also. Of course my workout plan and goals may change with time. I have friends that are trying to get me into the body building thing, and this larger set would be an advantage to have if I decide to go that route.

There are other sets out there and I am sure some very nice ones. The ones I have looked at for my personal use were good, but this particular product just met my needs more than other. As with any equipment we consider buying, each individual needs to do all the research they can, and if possible, try it out before purchase. A good friend of mine had a set of these and she was kind enough to loan them to me for a few days...that sold me. But again, buyers take care, select what meets your needs. I will say that I thought the price of these things and the shipping price was rather attractive.

5 out of 5 stars A Great Investment!   December 29, 2008
M. Rogers (Western Mass.)
Because I've looked at this product in stores, I knew the quality of the item before I ordered it. I went through Amazon because of the "free shipping". I never would have been able to get it out of my car and under the Christmas Tree without help. Amazon delivered it right to my front door! My husband loves the weights! I like the product because with a turn of the dial, I can use them too!!

5 out of 5 stars it works...   December 27, 2008
Rodolfo A. Rodriguez (Hayward, CA USA)
I wanted to get these weights because I was tired of switching the weight amount based on what exercise I wanted to do or how I felt that day. It was so annoying to switch the weights around I would end up skipping my exercise all together. This really helped me save time and be more motivated to lift as it is so quick and easy to adjust the weight.

4 out of 5 stars Good buy   December 20, 2008

I bought these instead of buying a full dumbbell set because who really has space for all that junk? I have been using them for over a week now and am impressed with the sturdy construction, simple design, and overall ease of use. You simply turn the dial to your desired weight in 2.5lb increments up to 25lbs, then 5lb increments to 50lbs (max 52.5lbs). The 2.5lb increments are especially useful for someone like me who has just begun weight lifting and the jump from 15-20lbs (for example) is a little much in some cases, which is why having a 17.5lb option is so nice.

Another excellent feature is the ability to use offset weights. For example, you can select 10lbs on one side and 15lbs on the other side of a single dumbbell for a total weight of 12.5lbs. What this does, however, is provide you the ability to work on pronation and supination of the wrist when performing curls and such. Since one side of the weight weighs more, you can work both the bicep and wrist at the same time when performing your normal routine.

There is also a safety feature that prevents the removal of the dumbbells from the stand if a weight has not been fully selected. I read the directions and performed the tests to make sure the locking mechanism functioned correctly and was impressed with it. Basically, you can't remove the handle if a weight on either side has not been fully selected by the dial.

The only downside to this product is its overall size. These dumbbells are BIG. Due to the overall length from dial to dial it can be slightly cumbersome to perform certain exercises where the two dumbbells come into close proximity. It's a minor inconvenience and has not prevented me from doing any particular exercise. As a result, though, I give the product 4/5 stars. I also highly recommend these to a full range dumbbell set, especially if you travel since these are portable.
