3 out of 5 stars Great sound, but... Bad cable!   December 7, 2008

First of all, I really love those earphones, they are stylish and sounds great. It really seals the ear so walking and riding public transportation with it is very good. I can listen to music without the street noise. The sound is good, I am not an audio expert, but it sounds a lot lot better than the phones I got with my ipod.
So why only three stars you ask? Mainly and only because of the cable. It is ridiculously short. I'm not tall, and I can't put the ipod in my jeans' pocket while using the earphones... For this reason it comes with an extension, but the extension makes it very long and cumbersome to use, too many cables to maneuver. When I put it in my jacket's pocket, it is fine, but I live in a warm climate so jackets are of rare use, even now in December. I bought it in J&R sale (cost me 60$) so I cannot really complain, but if I had paid 130$ this cable issue would have deeply disappoint me.

4 out of 5 stars clear and bright   November 30, 2008

I have had many cheaper earphones over the years, but never bought anything in this price range. I do own a pair of noise-reduction headphones by Sennheiser and love them. I was impressed by how well they kept the other sound out and how well they fit (included with 3 sizes of ear forms). The sound is crisp and bright.. and there was some sounds that I had not heard before which was neat. The bass was not as good but not sure if that is something that can be helped or not. The wires are very fragile looking and I am sure that a good tug may take care of the set period, but unless you are doing the BMX biking while you are wearing them and are careful they should be fine.

5 out of 5 stars The BEST you can get under $100!!   October 29, 2008

**Updated**
Pros: GREAT SOUND that's equally balanced across the sound spectrum. Good BASS without overpowering the MIDS & HIGHS. VERY comfortable and inexpensive.
Cons: Thin cabling, no foam tips, and small carry case that's hard to fit everything.

These Sennheiser CX 95s are great earphones. Let me take a step back to give some perspective on this review. For the past couple months I've been on a quest reading reviews (on IEM's) everywhere I can. Reason being, you can't go to a store and try these things out to find what you like for what you want to spend?! I found the best professional reviews at trustedreviews.com, ilounge.com, cnet.com, earphonesolutions.com and digitaltrends.com. Also some good customer reviews here on Amazon.

Two of the best phones out their (that I've read about) are the Shure SE530's and Westone UM2's. For me, I can't get myself to pay $300 or more for a set of earphones?! If you have that kind of cash to spend have at it. I'm sure you'll be getting the BEST phones out their. I just can't see spending that kind of cash?

So my next quest was to try and get something GOOD for under $100. First I have the standard buds that come with the iPod Touch. Which we ALL know they're okay at best. My first earphone purchase was the "Bose TriPort In-Ear Headphones". Their comfortable and they have descent BASS and a full & wide overall sound. That BASS comes with a BIG sacrifice though. The high end and mids are TOTALLY FLAT and MUDDY. This is unacceptable in my opinion; they went back to Best Buy within a few days of tying them out. Next was the Shure SE110's. They were comfortable too and had a clear overall sound. The vocals were very much in front in their sound stage. For me the MID-RANGE was way to high, ear piercing and kind of annoying at mid to upper volumes. I needed to "EQ" it down a little bit. The high end was OK but it needed a little more detail to it. Now for the BASS it just didn't have enough and yes I had a good seal and tried every tip size they had. Like I said they're VERY comfortable just didn't have enough BASS for me and the MIDS were too high. That's an ongoing theme I've read in many reviews about 'Shure's'. I held off for about a week before these went back to Best Buy because they were descent (but not worth $100). Better than the Bose but honestly only slightly better than standard $30 iPod earbuds. The only part that's REALLY better is the sound isolation. Well after these two I was about ready to give up at the $100 price point. Then I started reading ALLOT more reviews about other brands. And I settled on these 'Sennheiser CX95s' at $60 from J&R here on Amazon. These are really good! They have a good quality sound across the board. They were comfortable; and they don't go deep in your ears like typical IEM's (such as the Shure's) which I like. They're still fairly secure in your ears for working out or jogging and also block out a descent amount of outside noise. Almost as much as the Shure's which go deeper in the ear. They can come out with a little tug if you're sweating a lot. They are not bad, it's nothing like a typical earbud. As for the sound; the BASS is good & strong without being overpowering. Mids are good not overbearing at all and highs are good as well. The mids & highs could use just a hair more detail. But you'd need to spend a hundred dollars more to get it (no thanks). Like I said the sound is great wear it is and the overall sound at $60 BLOWS AWAY the Bose and Shure's (which cost more)! Plus it's a HUGE upgrade from the standard buds. The cabling could be a little beefier, the carry case could be better designed to fit everything and I really wish they came with some foam tips in addition to the silicone ones. In the grand scheme of things take these CONS into perspective. They're minor details. Now I bet the Shure SE530's and Westone UM2's (at 300 or more) are better, but $240 better?! For me these 'Sennheiser CX 95s' at $60 are GREAT. I haven't tried too many other phones outside of what I mentioned but I would bet you will be hard pressed to find something better at under $100 or possibly even under $200.

Be aware counterfeits are a problem with 'Sennheisers'. Only buy from an 'Authorized Dealer'. See Sennheiser's website for info. FYI - Amazon is an authorized dealer and J&R as well. MOST marketplace vendors are not. Don't risk it for just a few bucks! Hope this helps.

4 out of 5 stars Sennheiser Earphones   October 29, 2008

These in-earphones offer up great sound across the entire sound spectrum. I've read reviews that said the lower bass performance could be better. My take on that is that they give nice crisp and accurate bass performance unless you are used to, and like, thunderlizard type bass. For the price I don't think you can do better. Got these for about $60 then found a Sennheiser rebate promotion that will put $15 back in my pocket. Great sound isolation as well. To get better performance you'll have to fork over at least $100+ more. Beyond the point of diminishing returns for me...

5 out of 5 stars HiFi class in Low End price   October 28, 2008

I replaced my low end Koss stereo earbud with this incredible In-Ear Monitor. It is like a new world. I started listening to all my CDs all over again, as I noticed so many new sounds and instruments.
The level of details that come out from this In-Ear Monitor is indescribable. The accuracy of the entire frequency spectrum of treble, mid and bass is unbelievable. And the price left me speechless...
Absolutely a bargain...
