2 out of 5 stars Do not buy these, seriously, don't.   January 4, 2009
Sergio Morales (Levittown, NY United States)
Ok, *ignore* all the positive reviews on this board, these people are either mentally challenged or deaf. Long story short, I had a pretty good pair of Phillips in ear headphones where one side went bad so i needed a new pair. Got this pair at Best Buy and listened to it once on my Ipod and went right back to return them. Why? Well, apart from having a very weird in-ear design (it's just uncomfortable and feels like you're trying to stuff something bigger in your ear that's even supposed to fit there), and stupid outer speaker design (within decent volume on, everyone around you will be able to hear what you're listening to, given that there's literally a speaker on the OUTSIDE of each headphone that's supposedly supposed to bring sound "back in" - gimme a break!), the sound quality is just horrendous. Since these don't fit properly in anyone's ears and there isn't a filter mesh that the sound comes through, everything sounds muffled and distant, on top of that, the bass is absolutely horrendous, there is none to be found.
Here's some advice, if you're buying headphones for sound quality (which you should), pick up ones with a good wide frequency width. These are 16-20k Hz, whereas a Sony pair I picked up were a lot better at 6-23k Hz).
Just don't get these, if you're looking for GOOD in-ear headphones, don't go for any othese these ridiculous designs.

1 out of 5 stars Poor design, poor sound quality.   January 3, 2009
B. MORLOCK (clarksburg, wv)
Just received the headphones today and straight out of the package they were defective, the cable going to the L earphone was real short and the cable going to the right ear was fine length, they don't fit in your ear very well to shield out surrounding noise. So with that being said I still wondered if the " Virtual Surround Sound " was a gimmick, it is. In my opinion these headphones do not sound any better or different than the Creative headphones that came with my Dell laptop, by far the Creative's that come with the XPS sound much better, they carry more range than these from Philips. Not recommend purcahsing these.

4 out of 5 stars Love the sound   December 15, 2008

I love the sound on these! So far it's the best ones I've bought. Was hesitant at first because of their size and I didn't think they'd fit (Ended up anyways because I was short on cash for the ones I wanted :x).The Ssallest ones fit best but they kind of cut into and hurt my ears after awhile; was more comfortable without the pieces (which I had to do eventually because they fell apart, or fell off :x), but had issues with keeping them from falling out :x
1st pair one of the earbuds died on me, 2nd pair I got from my brother cause he bought a new one because the wires were pulled out were they seperate, though they still work most of the time (sometimes need to play with them a bit though)
I sometimes listen to my mp3 player when I'm going to bed, but I can't really do that with these because it get's pretty painful

2 out of 5 stars Make sure they fit !!!!!!!   November 14, 2008

I bought these headphones and tried everything to get them to fit in my ear. Unless you have dumbo ears, they will not stay in your ear unless you are a statue. I tried both rubber attachments, and even tried wearing them without the rubber pieces, and they still fell right out of my ear with the slightest head move. As I ended up holding them in my ear with my hands, the sound was no better than any other headphones. Make sure they fit your ear! You'll be angry if they don't...

1 out of 5 stars Poor design and mediocre sound   October 25, 2008

I initially liked the sound quality, but after using them for awhile, discovered that the design is terrible. First, I have lost all but one of the silicon rubber adapters. The rubber adapters seem to soften with age and they come off easily. With the clear silicone rubber, you don't notice you've lost one till you put it in your ear. Finding a lost one is almost as easy as finding a contact lens. I checked Philips customer support, but they don't stock replacement adapters. They referred me to a website, but the cost of the replacement plus s/h is as much as the price of a new set of earphones in Amazon.

Second, the earphones continually fall out if you are doing anything involving upper body movement, like yard work. Part of the problem is the conical shape which tends to put a lot of the weight/bulk and wire on the very end of the earphone. It is also due to the extremely long cord that seems to get hung up on everything, no matter how I wrap it around my body. The falling out is also due to the relatively large size of the cone end that goes in the ear canal. It does not fit my medium to small ear canal, even with the smallest silicone adapter.

Finally, the design of the earphones makes them painful for my medium to small ear canal. It hurts when I insert the earphones and feels uncomfortable to wear. Wearing them for a long period of time makes the ear canal sore.

The tight fit of the earphones does keep out a lot of external noise in situations like riding the bus or a plane. The sound quality is also better than regular OEM earphones that come with most mp3 players. However, I would not buy these earphones again if for no other reason than the unreplaceable silicon adapters.
