Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com Product Description
A great gift for iPod owners everywhere, the iLive IBCD3817DT portable boombox integrates a built-in iPod docking station with a slot-loading CD player and AM/FM tuner, making it a true all-in-one portable audio system. The unit starts with the iPod dock, which plays and charges your iPod 3G, iPod 4G (click wheel), iPod photo 4G, iPod video 5G and 5.5G, iPod mini, and iPod nano 1G and 2G. The CD player, meanwhile, supports CD, CD-R, and CD-RW formats, letting you listen to any CD tracks that you haven't yet uploaded to your iPod, along with a friend's CDs. Finally, you can catch up on the news, listen to the game, or catch a commercial station via the AM/FM tuner, which offers a number of station presets for easy channel surfing.

The IBCD3817DT owes its high-quality 2.1-channel sound to its pair of front-firing stereo speakers and dual subwoofers, which combine to produce a rich audio performance with a surprisingly deep bass response for such a compact unit. Also adding to the audio quality is a built-in equalizer with several preset settings, including rock, pop, jazz, classic, and DBBS. And thanks to the full-function remote control, you can control the CD player and iPod from a distance. Other details include a sleek white housing; a six-digit blue backlit LCD display with a digital clock and timer; CD track programming; a 3.5 mm auxiliary input for connecting other audio players, like an iPod shuffle or MP3 player, an audio/video output for connecting an iPod photo or video to a TV; a stereo HP jack; and a comfortable carrying handle. The iLive boombox, which runs on AC power or eight D-size batteries (not included), measures 18.8 by 8.8 by 9.2 inches (W x H x D) and is backed by a 90-day warranty.

3 out of 5 stars iLive Boombox   September 11, 2008

Sound quality is o.k., not great. No plastic spacers included for new Nano's. Shipping and packaging was good. Not impressed but decent ipod player for the money.

1 out of 5 stars Glad it was free.....   August 16, 2008

My wife won one of these at a meeting a few months ago - good thing because I would really be po'd if I'd had to put out some hard-earned cash to pay for it! It looks decent enough - although one of the grills had a small ding in it straight out of the box. It has no adapter for 3rd generation Nano's - but you can call(a non-toll-free number)and they will send you a couple of tiny foam squares to help 'secure' the current generation Nano (good luck making THAT work!). Most of these quirks I could have lived with - but what I can't tolerate is the truly awful audio quality - absolutely hideous. It won't take a high-end audiophile to recognize it either - even the worst ears out there will know this is REALLY bad. The thin and muddy sound oozing out of the speakers has absolutely no separation, depth, or character - it's just all "out there" in your face. The equalizer presets are laughable and the bass response is a whimpering after-thought at best. No way, no how would I ever buy this. It is good for me that it was a freebie - but it is bad that I can't return it. Don't waste your money here - unless you want to buy mine and I'll give you a better deal than Amazon ever dreamed of!!!

3 out of 5 stars Worked well....for 6 months   August 4, 2008

We liked the product. Volume was ok, had ipod, radio, aux input, and cd player. Fairly lightweight and portable. Remote was nice too.

Then one day, it just stopped working mid-song. The radio thinks it's playing but no sound comes out for ANY of the sources (ipod, radio, cd). And of course the warranty has expired.

4 out of 5 stars great little radio   April 30, 2008

I bought this radio to use at work (I'm in construction) I picked this unit because the radio surrounds the ipod giving it protection from dirt and debris typically expected on a construction site.
The radio and Ipod portion work well for my need.
the cd port is found on top of the radio and I expect that it will eventually fill with dirt and dust rendering the cd player useless. but as of now it works flawlessly.
The sound of the unit is very good and the volume is very good as well.
when using the AC adapter, the radio charges the ipod
unfortunately the radio also charges the ipod when running on batteries. (it takes 8 D cell batteries) that's not good
overall this radio is great unless you intend to listen to your ipod and run it on batteries.
