5 out of 5 stars still a must have album   December 30, 2008
N. J. Johnson (Owensboro, KY)
Everyone has heard the single mr. brightside. But the rest of the album is just all the way groundbreaking. In the days of heavy metal and emo/screamo, these guys bring their own sound and style. This album is in my top 100 of all time.

5 out of 5 stars One of the great debuts   December 20, 2008

I've never had the experience before of standing in a record store, hearing a song being played, going straight to the counter to find out what it was, and then buying the album within minutes. But that's the effect that the song "Mr. Brightside" had on me while I was in Red Eye records in Sydney one Saturday. It was probably the best song of the year. I play it to this day. And I'm no impulse-buyer.

It really needs to be remembered what a great album this is: lyrically, there is scarcely a faltering step on it; never a boring moment; and some of the songs which were not released as singles deserved to be. "Glamourous Indie Rock and Roll" and "Believe me Natalie" are so redolent of an indescribable time and/or feeling that they will probably still be playable many years from now.

The Killers made the unusual choice of using keyboards extensively on some of these songs, which, in a more mediocre band, might have made them sound as cheesy as a throwback to bad '80s stuff. But they have somehow retained both a fun 'pop' sound and their Indie street cred at the same time. It's an unusual combination, and the jewel in the crown of what must be one of the great debut albums.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful Debut!   December 12, 2008
Val (RI)
I simply adore this CD. I can't even tell you how many times I've played it over and over. It never gets old. The Killers have become one of my favorite bands and I resent the people that claim they are copycats of U2 or Coldplay. Their sound is unique and fresh. Similarities are inevitable nowadays. Brandon Flowers, the lead- does a wonderful job for every song and you really get a feel for the emotions he presents.

My favorite track-NO DOUBT is 'Mr Brightside'. How can you not love it? It's catchy and though it's upbeat, actually a morose type of song if you carefully listen to the lyrics. Awesome music video too!

'All These Things That I Have Done' is my second favorite track. Great tempo, great melody and the video, if you've seen it-is enjoyable.

Truly, I adore every track on here except #9: Believe me Natalie. I'm not sure why. I think the beginning throws me off every time. But other than that, this album is worth buying just for the replay value. I play it at least once a week in my car alone. Great, great album.

5 out of 5 stars Styles Blend   November 22, 2008

When I first heard a Killers song on the radio I thought it was okay, then I saw them on SNL and found them interesting.

Eventually I went and purchased this CD and I am very happy I did. Maybe they are not breaking new ground here, and their influences can be heard, but it still works.

They are combination of The Cure, Depeche Mode and even U-2 (as you can hear on Midnight Show ) with a bit more of a rock leaning than some of the 80s bands such as The Cure, with songs that are very well done.

The first time I listened to the CD I was able to listen to it all and it kept me listening to the entire record with solid songs. If you like pop/rock/synth blends you will like the.
