5 out of 5 stars Flawless!   August 31, 2008
Priscilla A. Arnold (Minneapolis, MN)
I'm a country girl, and have grown up with Bluegrass, but I'm not crazy about much of the genre's artists. But these kids are amazing. The virtuosic playing between vocal tracks is thrilling and makes you want to get up and dance around the room! And then the vocal tracks bring something brand new. It's not bluegrass, it's not even country. It's just good contemporary harmonies, great songwriting, and something the listener can relate to.

If you like country, get this album. If you like bluegrass, DEFINITELY get this album. If you like folk, get this album. If you like acoustic rock, get this album. If you like new, refreshing music, get this album.

5 out of 5 stars A must have, even if you are not a bluegrass fan   May 8, 2008

I first heard Nickel Creek on Garrison Keillor's Prairie Home Companion Radio show. I was hooked. The music just speaks to you, even if you are not normally a fan of bluegrass. In fact, I hesitate to classify the music as bluegrass because it is so much more than that being both modern and even incorporating touches that feel Celtic. The music is innovative and fresh, and I especially enjoy Sara Watkin's vocals. Her voice is melodic and so refreshingly honest. I especially like her in "Reasons Why." This is a CD you will listen to again and again.

5 out of 5 stars Stunning   February 12, 2008

After my introduction to this band, I learned of a concert 300 miles away. I had to witness these souls in person. Absolutely a fantastic addition to your music collection.

5 out of 5 stars amazing!   December 20, 2007
David (Colorado Springs, CO)
this album is the best album by one of the best bands out there. yes its bluegrass based, but the music in here is so good that bluegrass lovers and haters can both enjoy it if they would just get over the absolutes. talent and musical genius are all over this album.

thile is the best young mandolinists out there sean not only knows how to play guitar, but fills in so well that you hardly realize he's there, until you really listen, and then he's all over the record. and sara. the lord has blessed her hands on the fiddle and her melodies and harmonies ring loud. who needs 5 people in a band. forget two electric guitars and a bass drums a singer and a DJ.. lets get on to the real stuff. mandolin, fiddle, and guitar. simplicity at its finest, composed into complex rhythms and melodies. amazing alibum.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing musicianship and creativity   June 2, 2007
Loretta D. Brown (Louisville, KY)
This may be one of my all time favorite albums of all times. It is that good to me. Granted it is not classic bluegrass, which I love too, but it takes bluegrass to a new level. Don't try to compare it just to bluegrass. Take it for what it is. Chris Thile is probably the most amazing mandolin player on the planet and the other two musicians are amazing talents as well. The definately have created their own sound with this CD.
