3 out of 5 stars A Matter of Taste   December 28, 2008
Jeffrey J. Tull (Socorro, NM)
I love TSO, having all the CDs and attending concerts whenever possible (they stopped coming to Albuquerque so I'm grumpy for that). I agree with other comments about the intense overuse of chorus. The music was good, and I can listen to it, but it's too much. For those who like heavy chorus and the melodic harmony of voices, this will be great. But I'm not a huge fan of chorus music... so it's a matter of taste. I hope the rest of the CD is better.

I'm quite disappointed by this track by TSO. First, I found it overly produced. Second, after the first 30 seconds to a minute, I couldn't help but think how much better the Dies Irae from Verdi's "Requiem" sounded (the classical piece this track borrow heavily from).

So, I did a very unscientific test. I played 30 seconds of this and then 30 seconds of the Dies Irae, for my girlfriend who not heard either. She too liked the Dies Irae better. The percussion is more powerful and the chorus sounds better as well. My recommendation on this is to stick with the original.

3 out of 5 stars Diss-Enchanted   December 3, 2008
Volleybum (Rocky Mountains)
For something TSO has been promoting for over 3 years, this is a very dissapointing intro. In fact, this song should be just that, an "intro" that should be cut down to 1/4 of the length. The first 25 seconds sound pretty good, but what are they trying to accomplish with this song? A messy compilation of everything they've ever done? I found myself bored within 2 minutes hoping it would end.
I love everything TSO has done 'before' this release.

4 out of 5 stars This is a great opener   December 1, 2008
J. Nutt (Warrensburg, MO USA)
For those who are complaining that this song sucks, well let me tell ya what; it's even better performed live! I'm only a college student, but ever since I went to my VERY 1st TSO concert Dec. 2005, I've been waiting for the release of this cd or of any word on it. I went to the KC concert on Nov. 29 at 7pm with horrible weather conditions and over 11,000 fans in attendance!

I was once a Vocal Ed. Major at the University of Central Missouri and let me tell ya, the dynamics and feeling of being in a castle or cathedral in Paris, France, I got chills. I am going to have one of the professors in the UCM Music Department listen to it and tell me their own opinion and critique.

I don't care if there is electric guitar or electric violin playing, I'm just happy to hear something with a two choirs(listen very, very closely to the vocal arrangement) and classical music. It's new, and it's exciting to hear; a very dark, Gothic feel! Get a life if you can't handle a possible opener/closer to this new CD. If you say you're a true TSO fan, think outside the box! Something new never hurt anybody and this one is good for the music lover's soul!!

2 out of 5 stars Is this all?   November 30, 2008

As a long time TSO fan I was so excited to be able to hear something new from them. I kept waiting for the music to build or the vocals to be outstanding or a wonderful solo by one of the talented musicians. I kept telling myself listen to the end. Don't judge to quickly. Boy was I wrong. If this song is any indication of how the album will sound, I will be very disappointed. It does not compare with any of their previous work.
I really would like to have new music by this talented group, but if this preview is what we are getting..............
